Hi Mi Li,

Footnotes are not used for in-text citations in APA Style, so I’m not sure why you’ve been asked to use them. Since APA doesn’t give any guidelines for footnote citations, there’s not really any useful information I can give you. It would be best to ask your supervisor for guidance about this.

Hi,
I need to use footnotes in APA style 7
I used online sources and don’t know what information to put in which order into the footnotes.
I need to use them as an in-text citation.

Hi Ludovica,

It depends on what style you are following. “Ibid.” and “op. cit.” are both used in English as well, but most contemporary citation styles recommend against using them. For example, Chicago recommends using short-form notes instead for repeated citations of a source.

Good afternoon,
As my mother toungue is italian, and i am used to use footnotes instead of parenthetical citations, how can I substitute terms such as “ibidem” or “Op.cit”?
I am writing my thesis in english and i was wondering to know if there are equivalents for those forms of footnote citation

Hi Riz,

There’s no specific limit to the number of sources you can cite on a page. Do try to only cite sources that are relevant to the point you’re making, of course, but in some disciplines that can still end up being a lot of sources per page (especially e.g. in the context of a literature review).

Hi Hanan,

That depends on the specific citation style you’re following. In Chicago/Turabian style, you’d use a short note for subsequent citations of the same source, which gives less in-depth information about the source than the initial full note. In some other styles you might use “ibid.” to mark a repeated reference to the same source. The details depend on the style you’re following.

Hi,
When I write many quotations from the same book at the same page, how will I write footnotes?
Am I supposed to rewrite the same footnote?

Hi Nina,

Yes, it’s certainly valid to do this when relevant. Just include a footnote number at the relevant point in the text, then a footnote at the bottom of the page providing the additional information. If you need a citation within the footnote, just present it in the usual format for Harvard in-text citations.

Hi-
Can I use Harvard to cite additional information in footnotes? I have information in my dissertation that is not necessary relevant for the main body of literature but might be helpful for the reader to view for further clarification. I wanted to see if this information could be included in a footnote if I use Harvard citation style. Thanks.
