Hi Allyssa,

No, this sort of information is included on the title page in Chicago style, not on the first page of the main text.

Like with my name, teachers name, class name, and the date. I know MLA does, but I am unsure about Chicago style.

Hi Hannah,

Yes, the usual idea with Chicago style is that all the sources you cite in your footnotes also appear in your bibliography.

For my essay, I am required to have a bibliography AND footnotes. So when citing information, would the very same source I would reference go in both my bibliography and footnotes? Or just or the other?

Hi Sabrina,

Bolding may be used to distinguish different levels of heading in Chicago style. Outside of that, you could use bolding to highlight key words or phrases in the text, as long as you do so consistently and for a clear purpose. I recommend you don’t overuse this though; where emphasis is needed, it’s usually better to convey it through your phrasing rather than rely on formatting.

Is bolding text or phrased permissible in the Chicago style?

Hi Tiziana,

Chicago advises that AD appears before the number, while BC appears after the number. No periods are used in the abbreviations (so not, for example, “A.D.”). So for example, “He was born in 33 BC and died in AD 25.” Hope that helps!

How to write Before Christ ( BC ?) or After Christ (AD ?) in Chicago Style?
Thanks!

Hi Valerie,

You can follow the order suggested in this article. Abbreviations are usually listed at the start of your paper, not the end. The list of abbreviations comes after the table of contents and list of tables and figures, but before the glossary and introduction (ignore any elements that don’t apply to your paper).
