Hi Jill,

You can see more info about citing newspapers in this article. As mentioned there, it’s usual to just cite newspapers in the text and leave them out of your bibliography. If you do want to include them in your bibliography, you should do so by writing a full entry for each article cited, not just general entries for each newspaper. You can follow the formats shown in the article I linked above.

I have quote various newspaper article which appear in the citations for each chapter. I have at least 50 separate newspapers articles from only five or six newspapers. As I said, I spell these out accurately in the “Citations” for each chapter. but how do I cite the newspapers in the Bibliography? My question?

????? i.e.:
Archives, Journals, Magazines and Other Sources
Chicago Tribune, Chicago IL
Waukegan News sun, Waukegan IL

The dates are 13-15 years. Do I mention all the dates in the Bibliography, or are the more specific details ok to use in the Citation Section?
I’m so confused. Thank you.

Hi Daniel,

You can see further examples of website citations, with and without authors, in this article.

I want to know what that would look like, and if it would be similar to:
Website Name. Title of article. Date
URL

Hi Jason,

You should generally use a DOI when one is available. If no DOI is available for that article, you can use a stable URL instead, as you do in your first example here. If neither a DOI nor a stable URL is available, don’t just use the URL from your address bar, as you have in the second example here. That link is specific to your login session and doesn’t work for your reader. Instead of including a DOI or URL in such a case, you can just list the name of the database instead; see the example in the article above, under “Citing an article from a database.”

Just wondering if I include the full doi or https in a Chicago 17th edition styled annotated bibliography? Below are a couple examples:

Holmes, Clive. “Women: Witnesses and Witches.” Past & Present, no. 140 (1993): 45–78. https://www.jstor.org/stable/651213.

Becker-Cantarino, Barbara. “”Feminist Consciousness” and “Wicked Witches”: Recent Studies on Women in Early Modern Europe.” Signs 20, no. 1 (Fall, 1994): 152. https://search.proquest.com.ezproxy.library.uvic.ca/scholarly-journals/feminist-consciousness-wicked-witches-recent/docview/1300105253/se-2?accountid=14846.

Hi Debi,

To cite a translated source, use the label “Translated by”. You can see an example of a book citation with translator here. Page numbers only appear in the bibliography if you’re citing part of a source (e.g. a chapter of a book or an article in a journal).

Hope that helps!

edited by…?
Would there be page numbers cited as with books that are edited?

Hi,

An annotated bibliography not only lists publication details of your sources, but also includes a paragraph summarizing and/or evaluating each source. You can read more in our guide to writing a Chicago annotated bibliography.

Hope that helps!

(in Chicago manual of style) How would I make a bibliography ‘annotated’?
I’m doing A Level Global Perspectives and I’m really struggling with this part when writing essays.
Thank you.
